It's Never To Early To Start Thinking About Curling
2010-2011 Membership Package
Dear Curlers,
The 2010-11 curling season is fast approaching. When I came in the club this morning and didn't have to turn on the air conditioner I realized it will be here before we know it.
I would like to call your attention to pages 3&4 of the package where there is an introduction to the new Mixed Doubles league to be run Friday nights. This format is becoming quite popular and very successful at other clubs. Check out the demo on the YOUTUBE link! It may make Friday nights the highlight of your weekend.
The always successful Swing and Sweep run by Dave Grimo is back and scheduled for Saturday Oct. 16th. While Mike Lambert has been able to offer the Niagara Jet Boat Tour again this year as a club fundraiser on Sun. Sept. 19th. To help boost attendance Mike has opened up this event for anybody we want to invite. So if your kids, grandkids, neighbours or co-workers have never been on the Jet Boat this is the perfect opportunity to experience the Jet Boat at a substantial discount.
As your new club manager I look forward to meeting all of you this coming season. To speed up that process I will be bartending most of the opening events as well as participating in the Swing and Sweep where I am sure my only contributions to my team will be on the golf course. ALL WELCOME … LEARN TO CURL
Niagara Falls Curling Club is committed to introducing as many people to the sport of Curling as possible. In 1998 Curling became an official Olympic sport and though much more involved, has often been compared to ‘shuffleboard / bocce ball on ice’.
Curling is known as a sport for all ages and skill levels. We even have sticks available for those who are unable to bend at the knees.
CURLING CLINICS (great for anyone who wants to learn about the sport of Curling)
Beginner Course - One 4-hr session $50
Saturday, October 9, 2010: 9:00am to 1:00pm
Intermediate Course - One 2-hr session $25
Saturday, October 9, 2010: 2:00pm to 4:00pm
Our Beginner Course is an excellent starting point for introducing you to a fun-filled game of skill, precision, and fitness while leading you to learn more about teamwork, dedication and strategy. Beginners quickly learn the rules of the game along with delivery and sweeping techniques, but the main objective is to have fun while learning. The course will finish by getting you into a game situation.
Our Intermediate Course focuses on the line of delivery, weight control and strategy at a higher level than that introduced in the Beginner Course. This Intermediate Course is aimed at those with curling experience who want to improve on their curling skills.
ICE RENTALS (great for groups of family & friends, corporate events, team building activities, and more)
2- Hour Ice Rental (includes basic, on-ice instruction via club volunteers)
Target: 8 curlers per sheet
Per Person: $17.50* -OR- Per Sheet: $140*
RENTERS:
• Please arrive 15-30 minutes in advance of your scheduled time to check-in, sign waiver, pay and change into suitable curling attire.
• Please carry in a pair of clean, dry running shoes. Street shoes and boots will not be permitted.
• It is suggested that you wear warm, layered, loose-fitting clothing. Depending on your cold tolerance, you may also want to bring a hat a gloves.
• If traveling from the US, please give yourself adequate time and have appropriate identification for border crossing.
*Ideally, there should be 8 curlers on each sheet so that everyone can enjoy a traditional game of curling. Therefore, please try to arrange your group to be divisible by 8 (8, 16, 24 … ). We understand that this is not always possible, therefore, we have created two payment structures. The “pay by Person” - we may maximize each sheet to 8 players whenever possible (ex. a 6-person rental will be combined with a 2-person rental on the same sheet, or two 4-person rentals will be combined, etc). The “pay by Sheet” - you rent a sheet to curl with only your group (ideally you should have 8 curlers, however, a modified game can be enjoyed with fewer, and during peak rental times, we may permit up to 10 curlers on a single sheet at this rate).
